Light transmission (LT) is an indicator that measures the proportion of light that passes through a glazing unit. Expressed as a percentage, the higher this factor is, the more natural light will enter the room. The lower the light transmission, the less transparent the glazing.
How does glazing affect light transmission?
When glazing is exposed to light, it transmits some (LT), reflects some (RL) and absorbs the rest (AL). LT + RL + AL = 100% The light transmission of clear glazing is determined by the number of glasses and their thickness. On the other hand, the space between the panes (usually made up of argon) has no influence on light transmission (LT).
How is the transmittance of optical glass measured?
The transmittance of optical glass is measured using double beam spectral photometers from the company Perkin Elmer with special modifications. The standard setup enables to measure within a wavelength region from 250 nm up to 2500 nm. The measurement accuracy over the complete spectrum is about ±0.5%.
What is light transmission?
Light Transmission (LT) corresponds to the proportion of light transmitted through the glazing. It is closely linked to the solar factor. The higher the TL, the more light is transmitted.
